Legal metrology

Legal metrology includes measurements, units of measurement, measuring instruments, and measuring methods related to the requirements of legislation. This field handles measurements, which are conducted in the interests of public interest, public health, public safety, public order, environmental protection, taxation with taxes and duties, consumer protection, and fair trade.

The Technical Regulatory Authority checks the launch of measuring instruments on the market, their introduction and use and compliance with the requirement of proven traceability of measuring results, the activities of measuring instrument compliance assessment authorities and verification laboratories, the use of obligatory units of measurement.

One of the objects of surveillance are measuring instruments that are, for instance, used in customs and excise warehouses, fuel stations, shops, transport, traffic surveillance, upon measuring the water, electricity, and gas amounts, etc.
