On 13 June 2017, the Radio Equipment Directive 2014/53/EU (RED) entered into force in the European Union. RED gave manufacturers one year to adapt to the requirements of the new directive. As of 13 June 2017, all radio equipment launched onto the market must adhere to the requirements of the RED.
On 9 August 2017, the Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2017/1354 entered into force in the European Union, regulating the provision of information on equipment package regarding the usage restriction of the radio equipment and the obligation to hold a frequency licence. The provision of information in the form indicated in the regulation is obligatory as of 9 August 2018, but adapting to the regulation is allowed from 9 August 2017.
